Grace, happy to read that it all went well for you. Haven't you got a small bip caller around your neck, that when you press it, someone in your neighbourhood, who is atuned to it, is alerted ? many elderly persons living on their own have that appliance in France.

Spanish JW admitted to Foundation for Pluralism and Coexistens".
by InquiryMan ini found this interesting information in the 2010 report on international religious freedom.
the government has taken steps to integrate non-catholic religious groups through the foundation for pluralism and coexistence.
the foundation provides funds to minority and religious groups to promote religious freedom and dialogue.

Here is a link from 2006 which shows that when they see an opportunity to promote their agenda, WTS leaders are not very particular about mingling with marginal organisations under the guise of religious freedom

There was a time, say until early 70s, when you would travel hitch hiking from Europe to Nepal through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Want to have a try now ?

Is it related to France and tax issue going on ?
Gayle, I don't think this has anything to do with the French government eliminating the WTS's tax exempt satus. Those branches are simply done away with because they lack the contributive basis of the local witnesses to support their own bethel staff and building maintenance. The increase in the number of JWs in these regions (as in many european countries and probably in North America too) is due to foreign input. The new members are not so well off as the local French witnesses, who now don't contribute so much as they used to (pasted from a previous post).

Generation Teaching - Everyone is speechless?
by Red Piller inmaybe the effect of this change is bigger than realized?
in 1995, it was discussed (positively) by everybody, during the week we studied the wt.
one elder stepped down and was looked down upon.

Only the Father knows "that day and hour."
DJ, I heard a few times this silly reasoning from JWs whereby Jehovah may have hidden the day and hour from humans but must have given his servants a few clues as to the month and year of the occurrence of Armageddon. Can you please reassure me and tell me that this isn't what you meant in your post.

Blaming God..or just stating he's not doing anything.
by WillowTrees inbeing angry with god...just purely...angry.... i am going to talk about god...and i'm hurting...so i just need to talk.
i wish a lot of things...so maybe right now i just wish to be able to talk about this with someone..because i feel very alone.. .
you can't heal yourself" ... if i go to therapy...if i work on being mindful...or eliminating fear..how is that god helping?

I prefer to dismiss the idea that God doesn't do anything or, worse, that there is no God, and I stubbornly cling to the conviction that He knows infinitely more than we do about the reasons for evil, misery, etc. Once a JW...

Which branches/islands in the French Caribbean?
I think St Martin (half of the island, which is french) and St Barthelemy haven't got any bethels, as they are too small. They are closing bethels in the 2 Caribbean french overseas départements, that is Martinique and Guadeloupe, plus bethel in the South american french Guyana. I don't know about La Réunion island in the Indian ocean, whether they have a bethel or not and, if they've got one, if it will remain active.

Thank you, DJ, for going into such a long development and taking a lot of your time to prove that Jerusalem was destroyed in - 607 and not in - 587. To me it doesn't really matter, that is why I mentioned both dates in my post, pending a possible third one (who knows with the WTS), which would make you feel regret for having pleaded too much for -607. In any case I'm pretty sure that the occurrence of Armageddon won't hinge on such petty calculation in Jehovah's purpose. Remember, nobody knows, except the father, so why should we be fussy about dates and quibble ?

Leolaia wrote : "Nor did the schematic calendar have only 360 days in a year, for there were also four epagomenal days that lay between the months as markers of the four seasons (the two equinoxes and the two solstices), giving a total of 364 days in a year"
For a while I nurtured the wild hope that Armageddon would occur in 2069, or 2089.
(doing the calculation on the basis of 365 day years, 7 times are 2555 years and ole' 1914 turns into (- 607 + 2555) = 1948, + 1 = 1949. Adding 120 years to make room for father Noah we get to 2069 or (to one's taste), 2089 if Jerusalem was destroyed in - 587.)
Now Leolaia tears that hope to pieces with her 364 day year, so 1914 falls on 1942 and Noah will bring A in 2062 or in 2082.
Who will relieve us from this unbearable uncertainty ?
